About the Event

Many 'experts' out there claim to be able to spot lies every time, but the reality is often very different. Join leading body language and detection deception expert David Stephens, as he teaches you leading concepts in detection deception. 

Having conducted research with Australia's leading law enforcement institution, David brings his skills, experience and research to give you practical insights you can use to better be able to detect deception in a range of different situations.

Is the training in-person?

No, this will be a three-day, live training online workshop, to be held on:

Wednesday, 2nd October 2024 from 8am (Australian East Coast Standard time) until Friday, 4th October 2024 at 4pm

Each day participants will join from 8am - 4pm (Australian East Coast Standard time). Some after hours preparation may also be required (but this will be fun, not hard work!)

How can I attend?

All registered participants will be sent all the relevant course material, Zoom link and other information prior to the beginning of the training. You will then join via Zoom for the three days.

Who is this training for?

This training is for anyone who wants to get better at detecting deception and encouraging truth telling in all walks of life. During this training you will recieve world-class introduction into some of the leading concepts on detection deception. Whether you are a beginner or expert you will benefit from this training, which is designed to take your observation skills to the next level!

How good will I be at detecting deception after completing this training?

This three-day workshop will introduce you to a number of key concpets, with an emphasis on taking away practical skills to assist you in being a more astute observer with the knowledge of what to look for in order to detect deception and encourage truth telling in everyday life. Of course, detecting deception is a complex area of study, but this course draws on key research, noting the David Stephens' experience as a Paul Ekman trainer, and Joe Navarro Body Language Academy program manager and senior mentor. During the course you will gain knowledge and skills you won't get anywhere else.

Who is your instructor?

David Stephens is a Paul Ekman trainer and the Joe Navarro Body Language Academy Program Manager and Senior Mentor. David has been training individuals and companies from around the world in effective commumnication skills, including how to detect deception. He draws on his years of experience working in the fields of international relations and national security negotiations, where he developed important communication skills - especially designed to achieve success when negotiating difficult conversations with people who did not always tell the truth.

Of note, David is currently working with one of Australia's leading law enforcement agencies, including their ability to detect deception across cultural boundaries - ie when interviewing people from different cultural backgrounds. This reasearch will be covered during the training course, as well as many other aspects of deception detection.

What will the program cover?

During the three-day course we will cover:

  • Undersand the nature of detecting deception and the history and science behind this fascinating area of study
  • Review the myths about detecting deception
  • Learn a practical framework for detecting deception
  • Learn about different emotional states, micro-expressions and other behaviours useful for detecting deception.
  • Understand the role that different cultures play in detecting deception
  • Examine case studies, and practice applying your skills in real life investigations.
  • Receive practical course based templates and study workbook to aid in your learning and future application of your skills.
  • Q@A with your instructor.

By the end of the training session you will have developed a range of key skills to enable you to be a better judge of truth and credibility in a range of different situations.

Following completion of the course, every participant will recieve a certificate noting their successful achievement.
